Wisdom And Understanding

"Where then does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell? It is hidden from the eyes of every living thing, concealed even from the birds of the air. Destruction and Death say, 'Only a rumor of it has reached our ears.' God understands the way to it and he alone knows where it dwells, for he views the ends of the earth and sees everything under the heavens. When he established the force of the wind and measured out the waters, when he made a decree for the rain and a path for the thunderstorm, then he looked at wisdom and appraised it, he confirmed it and tested it. And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.' " Job 28: 20-28

We are limited creatures. We are alway trying to figure out solutions in our lives, wanting to know the how's and why's of everything. We like to have control over our situations and get frustrated when we can't make things work. We seek wisdom in books, from people, and through education. We try to gain understanding through past experiences, examining every aspect of the events hoping to make sense out of them.

Its good to seek wisdom and want to understand why things happen. The problem is, we are looking to the wrong things. When we are content with the wisdom of man, we will find it falls short of our expectations every time. We find ourselves more perflexed, more frustrated, and more lost. The reason? We are imperfect, limited, and easily deceived.

If we want to find true wisdom and understanding, we need to see what God says. Then we need to believe and fully trust what He says and act on His answers.

God says 'The fear of the Lord is wisdom.' Wisdom can only be found in God, by coming to Him in full reverence and becoming a student of His word, way, and life. Continually surrendering our own control and thinking to His.

God says to 'shun evil is understanding.' Shunning evil is turning our backs to the worlds way of doing things and relying on His way. The only way to do this is to know His way and the only way to know His way is to know Him.

God says if we abide in Him, He will live in us. Abide means to wait for, to endure without yielding, to bear patiently, to accept without objection, to remain stable or fixed in a state continue in a place. to conform to, to acquiesce in. Abiding means we take God as yes and Amen! Trusting that He is going to work all things out for the good of those who love Him.

When we can put God in this first and highest postition in our lives, we gain wisdom and understanding. Seeking Him first in all situations will provide us with all the wisdom we will need for that situation. So rather than seeking after wisdom itself, the next time we feel we need to know something, let us seek God, the keeper of wisdom, instead.
